Bibbidi Bobbidi Broke does Disney on a budget

The Disney fandom has reached a fever pitch on Instagram as countless “influencers” show off colorful photos of themselves munching on Mickey-shaped foods, wearing custom ears, posing in front of themed walls, and sporting their best Disneybounds. They’re giving us the vicarious Disney fix we crave, but many of them are virtually indistinguishable, following the same formula.

Adryana Redding, aka @bibbidibobbidi_broke, stands out from the crowd with a distinctively different, wildly entertaining, surprisingly educational approach to Disney theme park worship. As influencers of color still struggle for representation within the fandom, she’s making serious strides toward challenging the status quo.

With a degree in fashion design, a passion for thrift store bargains, and a childhood love of Disney, Adryana couldn’t afford to visit the famous theme parks when she first moved to Orlando. After finally achieving that dream and becoming an Annual Passholder, she decided to share her money-saving tips, Disney deals, and frugal fashion finds after a co-worker introduced her to the world of Disney Insta.

Now, she visits Disney World several times a month, posting vibrant snaps of her adventures with friends, offering helpful tips on how to enjoy the parks’ famous cuisine on the cheap (including vegan and vegetarian options), and demonstrating her flair for Disneybounding and putting together cute, Instagrammable outfits without breaking the bank.

Adryana’s relatable, refreshingly honest, unabashedly joyful approach to making the most of your theme park visit has earned her nearly 3,000 followers. While she has yet to achieve celebrity influencer status, with her focus on fun, practicality, and body positivity, it’s only a matter of time before Disney puts her on their VIP list.

Your Instagram account, @bibbidibobbidi_broke, is dedicated to doing Disney on a budget. That’s really unique from anything I’ve seen on Disney Insta. It’s a great idea because Disney theme parks can be so expensive. When did you start your account and what sparked the idea for it?

Firstly, I want to say thank you so much for your interest in my page. I’ve only been doing Instagram for about a year and a half, so any recognition is extremely exciting.

I didn’t even know that the Disney community was a thing until a co-worker directed me to another co-worker’s Disney-only Instagram. I was so excited to see that people had Instagrams dedicated to this thing that I loved so much. I said to myself, “I can do that!” And began taking pictures around the parks.

My page was always going to be about saving money and finding deals in and around the parks. But my name was originally @disneyandsprinkles, very generic, so another coworker suggested my name and it stuck. Now it’s what people know me for.

Why did you decide to focus on money-saving tips for Disney fans?

That pretty much is what my whole life is about. I’m an avid thrifter and also coupon. I’ve never had a lot of money and when I moved to Orlando, I couldn’t afford to go to the parks at all. So when I finally could, I had to find a balance so that I could afford my new habit and still pay my bills on a retail salary.

A lot of communities thrive on exclusivity, which is something I’m completely against. I wanted to be honest with my viewers and show that any and every one can have this beautiful, colorful, magical experience.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Broke is fun to look at, but it’s also surprisingly educational. I’ve actually learned a lot about Walt Disney World from following it. Where do you find inspiration for the tips and ideas you share?

I find tips everywhere, from personal experiences to Pinterest. I literally have a Pinterest board that’s only Disney Tips. I try to see what ways others have used to save time and money in the parks and then I try them out for myself and see if they work.

You live in Orlando, so Walt Disney World is your park. What are some things about WDW that only locals would know?

A few local hacks are where to see the parades and fireworks show in unconventional areas. Like, the Festival of Fantasy starts in Frontierland and spots normally don’t fill up there as quick. Most people want to be on Main Street or right by the castle to see it. Also another good one is that all Monorails will take you to the parking lot eventually. Even the resort only Monorail.

Do you remember your first trip ever to a Disney park?

Absolutely. I was 9 and we came for a choir trip with my school. At the last minute, our school’s choir didn’t have to perform so the whole trip was just having fun at Disney. I remember being so amazed that even after you left the parking lot, you still had to get on a boat to get to Magic Kingdom. It made it feel like we were going to this magical Island.

Tell me about the evolution of your Disney obsession. Were you always really into it?

I think I had the healthy relationship that most kids have with Disney. I enjoyed the movies. Pocahontas, Aladdin, and Mulan were some of my favorites growing up. But as I became an adult that changed. Me and my grandmother always watched Christmas at Disney after opening the presents on Christmas morning. I always used to say one day I would be there.

So, when I moved to Orlando that was the one thing that I wanted, to spend Christmas at Disney World. When I did it, my entire life was changed and what was a childhood fantasy became a reality. Being an adult can suck sometimes, so Disney made me realize that I never really had to grow up. I cried like a baby and was obsessed with Disney from that moment on.

The Disney parks aren’t the cheapest places. Is it difficult to find deals and discounts? How do you know where to look for them?

My best advice is research, research, research. Go to Instagram, check out other people’s feeds. Go to blogs to find out how other families do Disney. And there is literally somebody out there who has the answer to every question you have. Whether you are going on a solo trip or you have a family of 13.

Disney vacation planners are great, but also social media is gonna be your best friend nowadays. It’s super easy to go somewhere, put it on your story, and tell everybody about what happened.

Obviously, you’re an Annual Passholder. How often do you visit Walt Disney World?

I try to go at least 4 to 5 times a month. Sometimes I make it there more often than not. Most of the time in off season, like February and September, I end up going 6 to 7 times a month.

On Instagram, everything we see you doing at WDW looks like amazing fun, but does it also involve work to maintain the account?

Oh my God, it is so much work to do an account, but it’s also very, very fun. I try to create a balance. There will be certain days when I go to the parks and I know I wanna get 4 to 5 great pictures, and tell a beautiful story about my day. There are other times where I just wanna hang out with my friends and not let anyone know that I’m there. I might post pictures after the fact, but most of the time I’m just enjoying myself.

Sometimes people get hooked on how many likes they get, or how many followers they have. Although those things do seem important for Instagram, I tried to not care about them at all.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Broke is very focused on food, which I love, and you include vegetarian and vegan options, as well. You feature the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival a lot. For those who aren’t familiar with that event, what’s the big deal?

Food and Wine is the biggest and most well-known festival at Epcot. The title is self-explanatory and it’s a lot of fun. There are so many different food booths for so many different options. You can go to the festival several different times and never try the same things twice.

But there are also three other festivals that happen at Epcot — Festival of the Arts being my favorite because it happens on January during my birthday and the food is plated like little pieces of art.

What are some of your all-time favorite Disney foods?

Nutella Waffles are life and, of course, Dole Whip!

You offer a lot of tips for saving money on Disney fashions and fashions in general. How did you first become interested in that subject?

I’m obsessed with fashion. I actually have a degree in fashion design. So it’s a big part of my life.

I love that you proudly represent plus fashion and body positivity. Why is that important to you?

I’ve always been a plus-sized curvy girl. That’s not gonna change anytime soon. I just wanna show other people that you can be whoever you are and be proud of it. I also don’t see many girls that look like me in the Disney community so I make it a point to try to be a beacon of light. When you don’t see yourself represented, it can be very discouraging. I just want to show the full diversity of the Disney community.

Tell us a little about how you go about putting together one of your Disney outfits or Disneybounds.

Every outfit starts differently.  It could be a really cute character shirt that I wanna show off or a cool pair of shoes. I start with a focus piece or concept and work around that. I then search around in my closet for what will go with it or maybe stop at the thrift store and see where the outfit takes me. I try not to obsess over the details of the outfit, really just have fun putting it together.

Do you also sometimes make your own accessories?

Yes, all the time. Most of the time, I try to incorporate at least one item that I have made into my outfit. A lot of times this comes from wanting a specific piece that I have in my head and not being able to find it, so I just make it. Like my Marie shoes or my Halloween Minnie ears.

How many pairs of Disney-themed ears do you own?

Right now, I have about 20 pair, which is not a lot compared to some of my friends. I have a plain pair that I change the bow out quite frequently, so it looks like I have a lot more than I do. I try not to pay full price for them either. I have about five pairs that I found at their stores.

As a person of color, you’re making an impact for representation with your account. It seems Disney enthusiasts are becoming a bit more aware of diversity within the fandom, thanks to hashtags like #disneyboundersofcolor, #blackgirldisney, and #disneydiversity. Do you think there still needs to be change and growth in terms of visibility for POC within the fandom?

Absolutely. We always joke that there is about five of us, but there is really a lot more. I think we could network better to find each other better. But also I think what would help is when Disney has big events that they invite more bloggers of color.

Has your Instagram account given you any opportunities you wouldn’t have had otherwise? Have you made friends with other Disney influencers?

About 50% of my followers came from shout-outs from other big influencers. I have made a great network of friends through this community and I’m super grateful for them. As far as opportunities are concerned, I haven’t got any invites to big events … yet.  Although those things are fun, it’s not my main concern right now. I just wanna focus on growing my following and being as genuine as possible.

Christmas is coming. What are some of your favorite things to do at Disney World during the holiday season?

Christmas is my most favorite time of the year and especially at Disney World. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is one of the highlights of the season and I’m super excited that I’ll be going tomorrow.

It’s this amazing party where you get a very special Christmas parade and fireworks show, complimentary cookies, hot chocolate, and other snacks. There are also special meet and greets with rare characters. It is very fun.

What’s your ultimate favorite Disney attraction?

My all-time favorite Disney attraction is Avatar: Flight of Passage.  It is literally the most of immersive ride I have ever been on.  It is definitely worth the wait.

Disney walls are all the rage right now on Instagram. Do you have a favorite wall?

I love all the walls, but the bubblegum wall is probably gonna be my favorite just because I have so many memories there.

Do you ever wake up in the morning and think, “I really don’t feel like going to Disney World today?”

Yup, I do, and on those days, I don’t go to Disney. I don’t force myself to go if I don’t want to because it kills the magic. Disney is fun. It should never feel like work.

What do you do when you’re not at Disney?

I’m a huge fan of audio books so that’s a big part of my life when I’m not a Disney. I love adventure in general, so if I’m not a Disney and I’m off, I’m exploring the city and trying to find new things to do. I highlight a lot of my non-Disney adventures on my stories as well.

Are you into any fandoms besides Disney?

Yes, I am a huge Game of Thrones fan. I also like sci-fi and fiction as well. So, anything along those lines I’m good with. I grew up watching Sailors Moon and Dragon Ball Z, so those will always be a big part of my life, too. I also was a Nickelodeon kid, so I’m always down to watch old episodes of SpongeBob, Hey Arnold!, or the Rugrats.

What’s left to do on your Disney bucket list?

So many things to do! I want to close out every park. Which is when you stay ‘til you are the last people in the parks. It’s fun.

My ultimate bucket list is to visit every Disney park around the world and do a cruise. I’ve only been to Disney World so far, so I got a lot more adventures coming my way.

  1. I loved the observation that Bibbidi Bobbidi makes: I just wanna show other people that you can be whoever you are and be proud of it.
