When I was a kid, one of the best parts of the day was when it was my turn to play “Super Mario Bros.”
Finally, finally, I could pop that cartridge into the NES — shared by myself and two siblings — and lose myself in the Mushroom Kingdom, collecting coins, smashing bricks, navigating a minefield of Goombas and Koopa Troopas, and hoping to catch a break with a Fire Flower or “warp pipe.”
I’ll admit, I sometimes had to enlist my younger brother to pass some of the tough levels for me. But even with my awkward gaming skills, the “Super Mario Bros.” hour was a little slice of 8-bit heaven.
Since then, of course, Nintendo has proven to be an enduring pop culture icon. A new generation of gamers has embraced the fun, fueled by their own curiosity and their parents’ nostalgia. They know a good thing when they see it.
In that spirit, No Man’s Land is launching its first giveaway.
We’re looking for the biggest little Nintendo fan we can find, a child between the ages of 7 and 12, who wants to provide a good home for a “like new” collection of 15 amiibo interactive game characters.
Do you have a tiny Nintendo fan living in your house? Does your kid spend every waking moment on the Switch or 3DS? Is your niece or nephew obsessed with Zelda, MarioKart, or Super Smash Bros.? Whatever Nintendo systems, games, or characters your kid is into, we want to see what they’ve got.
To enter your child or relative, send a photo that expresses their Nintendo obsession, along with a few sentences describing why they are the ultimate fan, to lavendervroman@gmail.com.
Children must be age 7 to 12 to be eligible.
Entries will be judged by a Nintendo expert. The winner will receive 15 amiibo interactive game characters.
Deadline to enter is Nov. 27, 2017.
The cleverest and most entertaining entries will be posted on No Man’s Land.
We can’t wait to see what you come up with. Watch out for those Goombas and Koopa Troopas!
