It’s the end of the line for No Man’s Land. What comes next?

I wrote a graphic novel and it’s coming Sept. 22!

It’s been a really long time.

No Man’s Land blog has been inactive for years, yet it still hovers here in a sort of limbo, the relic of a time when many of us felt more hopeful that women’s voices would be amplified in all the spaces they needed and deserved to be heard. That doesn’t mean we’ve given up the fight, just that we’ve realized it’s going to take more than a few blog discussions to solve the problem of women and marginalized people being increasingly threatened and diminished in the world we live in.

I stopped posting here in 2021. The Covid pandemic had a lot to do with that, but I also realized there wasn’t much of a need for a space like this anymore. Women were doing a damn fine job of creating and demanding space for themselves in geek culture and beyond. I’m thrilled to report that most, if not all, the women and nonbinary people I interviewed or featured here have gone on to achieve breathtaking success.

They’ve become published authors, experts in their fields, influencers, journalists, artists, speakers, fashion designers, filmmakers, business owners, and TV and media personalities. They’re on red carpets, on your screens, in your feeds, and are now mentors, entrepreneurs, change makers, CEOs, and celebrities. I’m so grateful I got to meet them at the beginning of their creative journeys and honored I could play a tiny part in telling their stories.

My story has evolved, as well, and it’s time for this writer to embark on a new chapter. Before No Man’s Land makes its exit, I wanted to let my few remaining subscribers know what I’m up to.

I wrote a graphic novel!

And it’s coming Sept. 22.

It’s called Not Death, But Love: The Strange, Supernatural Story of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, illustrated by my brother, talented comic artist Joshua Kemble. Hand-drawn and lettered in full color, this gorgeous book tells the love story of real-life Victorian poets Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning, who elope to Italy and are swept up in the shadowy world of spiritualism and seances, capturing the attention of a mysterious American socialite and a scheming medium.

I’m working to finish the first draft of my second graphic novel, so hopefully this is just the beginning of a new writing adventure. I’d love nothing more than to stay connected with you, so come along!

Thank you for your support, my friends. I’ll see all you wonderful geeks in the trenches.

With love,

Lavender
